Don't worry....

Funny conversation last night at supper....

Me: "I wonder how expensive adoption from another country is"

Isaac instantly buries head and starts to cry.

Me: "Oh Isaac, you didn't think we were going to give you away, did you?"

Isaac nods his head, big tears are falling from his eyes.

Ben and I start to laugh and tell him not to worry.

Evan: "Don't worry, we'll send you post cards"

Nothing like a big brother to ease your fears....

One down, three to go.....

I should always trust my gut feeling....I am usually right!

The throw up flu has been going through daycare and school. This morning when we got to daycare, Isaac told me his tummy hurt. I told him he was probably fine, and he would feel better once he ate. It was my only option. He didn't have a fever, we were already late and I can't keep him home for a tummy ache. I told our daycare provider to let me know if he didn't seem right. She called a while later and said he didn't want to eat breakfast. In my gut, I felt like he was probably sick. I called his teacher, who happens to be a good friend to give her a heads up. I told her that if he seemed off, that he really could be sick.

At 8:50 this morning I got a call from the elementary. Isaac had thrown up.

His poor pregnant teacher! I got an email almost immediately after from his teacher....she said that he only gave her a three second warning, so they didn't quite make the trash can!

When I went to pick him up, the nurse told me that there were three 1st graders within 20 minutes that had gotten sick. Tis the (flu) season!

The good news is, he is acting fine after resting this morning. Luckily it seems to be a quick thing...now, I wonder when it will hit the rest of us?

Isaac's wrestling debut

The boys wrestled in their first wresting tournament of the season yesterday. Isaac had a rough day. He had second thoughts when we walked in the door, but Ben and I thought it would be good for him to at least try it. It started out rough, as he realized his first opponent was a girl.

By the end, he figured out if he just rolled over and laid there, the match was over a lot faster! Oh, Isaac....only you would think of that!

Isaac and the frog....

I am so glad I have teacher friends that help keep track of my children for me....
Just got this email from Isaac's first grade teacher.

So, thanks to Justin, you don't have a surprise coming home to you in Isaac's bag tonight.  :)

One of the students brought a tree frog into our room last week.  I saw the mom over the weekend and she told me to just let it go so it wouldn't die in our room.  So I told the student to take him out for recess and let him go.

Evidently, Isaac wanted to take him home b/c he snatched him up  and decided to put him in his bag.  Fortunately for us... and the frog... Justin saw him and made him go put him back on the playground.

:)  Only Isaac!  :)

1ST AND 3RD GRADE

The boys had a great day at school. Isaac was a bit disappointed they took away play time in first grade and you have to learn the whole time!

Eli was very upset that he couldn't go with....he cried and cried when he had to go to daycare and the big boys got to go to school.

I am not sure what happened or when it happened, but they are so grown up. When we got to school, Evan decided I didn't need to stand with him. He told me he was fine by his friends, and that I could go with Isaac. When Isaac got to his line, he told me he thought he was fine by himself too. He wanted to try going in by himself. That's where I drew the line and told him I needed to go in with him. So....he walked in his line and my friend and I (who had just experienced the same things by her 3rd grade and 1st grade daughters) walked in together....much behind the big kids!

Busy Day...

It was a very eventful day in the Kalainoff House today...

Here is a quick summary:

This morning we watched our friend's one year old. Jag loved the older boys and there were only a few moments where I thought I may loose my mind! Mainly when Jag took a drink of my cold coffee, Eli pooped in his underwear, the phone was ringing and Zeke needed to eat, all at the same time. Other than that, it went just fine. We went outside for a bit....you know you have a lot of kids when you are talking to the neighbor and it takes her five minutes to realize you have an extra child with you! Halfway through our conversation she said "Hey, that's Jag. He's not yours!" It was pretty funny....

The boys each had "milestones" of their own.

Zeke - had his first "real" smile today and then many more throughout the day. He is 6 weeks old today and is starting to "communicate" by looking right at you, making little noises and smiling. It isn't very frequent, but it won't be long.

Eli - has been wearing big boy underwear since Friday. He isn't doing great with it...he did very well on Saturday and Sunday, with only a few accidents. Today, he peed in his pants 6 times. I want to give up, but he doesn't want to wear a diaper. Everytime he pees in his pants, he says "I wear Spider Man underwear. I don't want to go potty in them. I tell Evan and Isaac when I have to pee." But...he is still forgetting. He does great when I take him every hour or so. He is staying dry a lot of the time. I just don't think he was as focused today. I am trying to not go back to diapers....we'll see how long I last!

Isaac - learned how to ride his bike without training wheels today. I feel bad that we haven't really worked with him. We live on a giant hill with a very steep driveway so we don't have a good place to practice. This afternoon I took the boys and the bikes to the school parking lot to ride. Isaac hopped right on, I gave him one big push and he could do it! By the end of the trip, he was starting and stopping by himself. We got home and he and Evan rode their bikes around the block. He was so proud of himself!~

Evan - hit a legitimate homerun in t-ball tonight. I say legitimate because other kids have hit balls and made it around the bases because of all the overthrown balls. Evan's ball was a line drive past the out fielders. This is a big deal for him and for me...He was in a slump and hadn't hit a pitched ball for the last two games and last two practices. He was holding the bat wrong and had his arms wrong. It was driving me nuts but since I am not coaching this year, it was hard for me to help him fix it from the stands. He just looked so awkward up to bat. On Sunday, I took him outside, showed him a few things, helped him with his stance and pitched some balls to him. He was cranking them in the yard...I was hoping he would remember what we did. Tonight he was 3/3 and didn't have to use the tee. He was so excited when practice was over.

6 years?

How does this beautiful 6 pound 14 ounce baby boy go from this.....

To this......

And this.....
To This BIG 6 year old?
Oh Isaac. You challenge us daily! You definitely beat to your own drum and have given us a run for our money. You have turned into such a caring and compassionate boy. You have learned how to be an awesome big brother and you have the biggest heart! You are always thinking and you keep us on your toes. You have brought more laughter into our lives than we could have ever imagined. We are so proud of you and love you so much....
Now that you are six,  you can stop growing....

Happy Birthday, Isaac. We love you!

Big 6 Year Old!!!

Isaac had a fun birthday today. We didn't do much during the day....this afternoon he opened his presents. He is at such a fun age that everything is "just what I wanted!" He got some Star Wars things from us and his own tool box with real tools. He loves to build things with scrap wood that Ben has in the garage. Now he can use his own tools to do that. He was pretty excited!

Tonight we surprised the Birthday Boys and took them to Chuck E Cheese. We told them we had to do some shopping and they were pretty mad at us...instead, we went to Chuck E Cheese instead. They thought that was hilarious that we tricked them

Funny, but not really.....

Isaac has been in prime form lately. Not sure if it is from the lack of sleep now that the weather is nicer and we are outside more or what, but he has really pulled some quick ones on us...

Today I walked around the house to the front and on the side of the house, on the siding in permanent Sharpie...someone had written "Evan" in two different places. I automatically knew it was Isaac who had done it...Actually, I didn't even question Evan. My instinct was right. Isaac admitted it right away.

I guess he learned from this experience that if you are going to do something naughty, make sure you set it up so they think it's someone else...

I learned tonight that rubbing alcohol takes Sharpie marker off of the siding. Isaac scrubbed and scrubbed until it was off. Ben and I went to the garage and had to remind ourselves that he is just a kid, and it was kind of funny that he used someone else's name instead of his own!

Little Helper

Isaac loves to help in the kitchen! Here he is tonight helping me with my bars that I was making. He is so patient and really takes pride in helping out. The conversations he has while baking are quite funny as well....tonight was an interesting conversation about eggs. He is rather obsessed with chicken eggs and was scared to crack open the eggs in case there were chickens in there. I had a hard time explaining it without getting into a lot of detail about how I knew our eggs didn't have chickens in them....I told them they couldn't since they are kept in the fridge, not under warm lights. He still had more questions, but I distracted him with the chocolate chips.

New Haircut

Isaac came home from school with a new haircut today. Not sure what possessed him to cut his own hair. It wouldn't have made me quite as mad had I not just paid for him to get a haircut last week. Ben usually cuts his hair, but with wrestling he just has been too busy to do it. So, last week I took him to Cost Cutters to get a "real" haircut. It is hard to pay $10 for a haircut you know that you can get for free at home, but with the lack of time, it was very easily justified.

Here is his "new" look....
.

And we are lucky that Ben could fix it! Ben ended up giving him a haircut tonight....So, $10 and three haircuts later...here he is! We are thankful he is a boy and we can just buzz his  hair right off. Not sure what we would do if he were a little girl!
