Late Again....

Today I was late for work again...

Ben went to work early because he was taking a bus load of kids to Physics Olympics. He goes in early four mornings a week, so this was no different. Eli decided to get up a bit early today. I managed to get ready without him getting into any trouble. As I was getting the older boys up, I noticed Eli had disappeared.

The first place I looked was the bathroom...to discover my worst fear. He was sitting IN THE TOILET. Not on the toilet, not playing in the water. He was sitting in it. Luckily since the older two were still in bed, it had been flushed...(they have a bad habit of not always flushing...gross I know, but a reality around here. They get so excited to play, that they sometimes forget).

I was not happy. I said "ELI" very firmly. He looked up at me and smiled and his response.......

"BAF" (bath)

Yes, he got a bath this morning - which caused me to be a few minutes late to work. I think if anyone were to question me, they would have understood.

And it is so gross to think about...this is the last I am thinking about it. It makes me want to vomit to give it much more thought. My child was sitting in the toilet.

New brick

The brick on the front of 9our house was completed this weekend. It really finishes it out nicely. This was the last of the contractor's projects...the rest is up to us to get done. The retaining wall will completed this spring when things dry out and we have a massive amount of yard work to be done! Ben is going to tile the master bathroom this spring or summer as well as many other little projects that we hope to get finished up.

10 seconds

I leave the room for 10 seconds to come back only to find Eli on the kitchen counter, stirring the salad. Seriously kid....I am not getting much done today. We are having a party for Rhonda tonight and I may still be in my pajamas if this keeps up.....

The boys have been enjoying the nice weather that we have been having lately. 65 degrees in March is very welcome around here! We are really getting excited for summer!

All Boy

This is the only way I can get Eli to sit/stand still outside.....he is all boy. He makes truck sounds and turns the wheel....how do little boys know what to do on a riding lawn mower?

Outside boy

Guess who loves it outside?
Guess who is ready for summer?
Guess who can open the outside door and go outside ALL BY HIMSELF?

This is scary....I can't keep him inside and he is pretty sure he needs to be outside all waking hours. Tonight he opened the door to the garage to out "out" "coat" (that's what he says when he is going outside)

And he won't stand still or look up for a good picture. He is on the run...and all we have is mud up here. It is going to be a dirty spring and summer until we get some grass growing!

YUCK

As mentioned before, eating is not the highlight of Eli's day. He has been eating one good meal a day, so it is really gotten better. His new thing, which is not a good thing, is smearing his food all over his hair every chance he gets. At lunch he smeared pineapple all over his head...tonight it was yogurt. Luckily it was bath night which is why I let him go. He takes it very serious!

Notice his poor chapped face....one more reason we are ready for summer! He has had a constant chapped face all winter from his pacifier. I get it cleared up at night and then by mid morning he is broke out again. I think the warmer weather will help.

Accent Colors

Ben's mom was up this week to watch the boys. She commented on how everything matched so well, and recalled us this summer with bits and pieces of our house laid all over the kitchen table. After the kids went to bed, we would drag out our house stuff and begin making major decisions. We had a chunk of carpet, a block of wood from the cupboards, a piece of vinyl, the pillows from the couch, towels, paint chips, etc....We would lay everything out, making sure that the pieces that touched each other in the house matched. It was quite an ordeal and we never really knew how things would look once they were all together.

One thing that we forgot to match was the toys. On any given day....this is what I find:
The GI Joes climbing the blinds, peeking through the furniture, on the entertainment center, on the stair railings...you name it. It really is quite funny...the furniture is transformed into garages for fire trucks and police cars at night...the carpet is the construction zone...or dirt for the dinosaurs. It does make me smile!

Birthday Buddies

Eli and Nanny have a special connection. I never knew how special it would be for Eli to be born on Nanny's birthday. She is so proud of him and she calls them birthday buddies!

Dylan's 3rd birthday

We celebrated my nephew's third birthday on Saturday. The boys had such a fun time playing with Dylan and Keegan. We seriously have the cutest nephews and niece on the planet....here are some pictures to prove it!

Kindergarten

Isaac had kindergarten round-up today. He was very apprehensive about it. Evan was telling him how fun it is and that you learn to read. He told us that he can't read so he wasn't going. He did go today, and when I picked him up he said "Kindergarten is very fun. I like Mrs. Edson." So, hopefully that same attitude will carry on for next year. His preschool teacher said he is definitely out of his shell! That was good to hear....as long as he doesn't come too far out of his shell!

Croup

I don't even want to put this down, because I am sure I will jinx myself....here it goes though. The kids have been fairly healthy this winter. This is pretty unusual in our house. Last weekend, Evan ended up with the stomach flu. The kids were in Grundy on Saturday and Sunday because Ben and I were at State Duals...Evan threw up Sunday morning and continued the rest of the day. It was a long drive to Nashua with him dry heaving all the way! Poor kid. The others, surprisingly didn't get it.

This week, both Isaac and Eli have the crud. It isn't terrible, but they both have stuffy noses in the mornings (hence the kleenex incident a few days ago) and just both a little off. Eli developed quite a cough last night. It was the kind of cough that shakes the walls....it sounds like a bark. And the poor baby did it all night. He had a fever last night and this morning so I decided to take him in to the doctor...luckily everything looked fine, ears, throat, lungs. He just had a low fever and the doctor said the symptoms I described are consistent with croup. So, no medicine, just a coughing/barking baby. We'll see how tonight goes.

He is growing a little...slowly but surely. He weighed 23 pounds 4 oz. this morning. Last checked I think he was 21 or 22, so maybe his eating is paying off a bit.

Late

Today Ben and I were both about late for work because Ben had to remove a kleenex from Isaac's nose. Isaac had a stuffy nose so he shoved a kleenex up it (like the wrestlers do). This has happened before, only this time, we couldn't see the kleenex. Ben had to use the tweezers to remove it! It was a fun morning......

Evan's play

Evan's first grade class had a play yesterday. Evan was a narrator and did an awesome job! The play was called "Manana Iguana" and it was about fairness.

17 months old

It is so hard to believe that Eli is 17 months old! He has changed so much over the last few weeks and just seems so grown up. He is talking all the time. His favorite words to say are:
I-kick (Isaac)
Cody (puppy at daycare)
Teeeeeee (Taylor, the high school daycare helper)
bankie (blanky)
Paffy (Paci)
Ma ma
Da da
Guys (when shouting at his brothers)
owie
eat
full (he figured that one out when he doesn't want to eat!)

This is how we found him the other morning...he had put his hat on and Evan's glove. He was so proud of himself!

And how there are no broken bones yet....he stands on everything. The other night I went into the boys' room and he was on the TOP BUNK....running towards the end in excitement. Luckily (or unluckily) he got tripped up in the comforter and fell onto the bed. So, now the ladder goes on top of the bed as soon as Evan gets up in the mornings. As you can see from the picture below...although he is eating better, he has not started to fill out yet. Look at those scrawny legs and arms!
